鄂尔多斯位于内蒙古自治区西南部，地处鄂尔多斯高原腹地，介于北纬37°35′24″～40°51′40″，东经106°42′40″～111°27′20″之间。

东、南、西与晋、陕、宁接壤，东部、北部和西部分别与呼和浩特市、山西省忻州市，包头市、巴彦淖尔市、乌海市，宁夏回族自治区、阿拉善盟隔河相望；南部与陕西省榆林市接壤。东西长约400公里，南北宽约340公里，总面积86752平方公里。

二、地形地貌

鄂尔多斯市自然地理环境的显著特点是，起伏不平，西北高东南低，地形复杂，东北西三面被黄河环绕，南与黄土高原相连。地貌类型多样，有芳草如茵的草原和开阔坦荡的波状高原。

鄂尔多斯市境内五大类型地貌，平原约占总土地面积的4.33%，丘陵山区约占总土地面积的18.91%，波状高原约占总土地面积的28.81%，毛乌素沙地约占总土地面积的28.78%，库布其沙漠约占总土地面积的19.17%。

Two tolled expressways, the G18 Rongcheng–Wuhai Expressway and the G65 Baotou–Maoming Expressway, provide connections with other towns and cities including Dongsheng.There are no direct rail lines to the city. The closest is the Baoshen Line in Dongsheng.Ordos Airport is located in Ejin Horo Banner.
