lostinyoudaidai Federal Government's Help Federal efforts to aid minority businesses began in the 1960’s when the Small Business Administration (SBA) began making federally guaranteed loans and government-sponsored management and technical assistance available to minority business enterprises. While this program enabled many minority entrepreneurs to form new businesses, the results were disappointing, since managerial inexperience, unfavorable locations, and capital shortages led to high failure rates. Even 15 years after the program was implemented, minority business receipts were not quite two percent of the national economy’s total receipts. Recently federal policymakers have adopted an approach intended to accelerate development of the minority business sector by moving away from directly aiding small minority enterprises and toward supporting large, growth-oriented minority firms through intermediary companies. In this approach, large corporations participate in the development of successful and stable minority businesses by making use of government-sponsored venture capital. The capital is used by a participating company to establish a Minority Enterprise Small Businesses that have potential to become future suppliers of customers of the sponsoring company. MESBIC’s are the result of the belief that providing established firms with easier access to relevant management techniques and more job-specific experience, as well as substantial amounts of capital, gives those firms a greater opportunity to develop sound business foundations than does simply making general management experience and small amounts of capital available. Further, since potential markets for the minority businesses already exist through the sponsoring companies, the minority businesses face considerably less risk in terms of location and market fluctuation. Following early financial and operating problems, sponsoring corporations began to capitalize MESBIC’s far above the legal minimum of $500,000 in order to generate sufficient income and to sustain the quality of management needed. MESBIC’s are now emerging as increasingly important financing sources for minority enterprises. Ironically, MESBIC staffs, which usually consist of Hispanic and Black professionals, tend to approach investments in minority firms more pragmatically than do many MESBIC directors, who are usually senior managers from sponsoring corporations. The latter often still think mainly in terms of the ‘social responsibility approach’ and thus seem to prefer deals that are riskier and less attractive than normal investment criteria would warrant. Such differences in viewpoint have produced uneasiness among many minority staff members, who feel that minority entrepreneurs and businesses should be judged by established business considerations. These staff members believe their point of view is closer to the original philosophy of MESBIC’s and they are concerned that, unless a more prudent course if followed, MESBIC directors may revert to policies likely to re-create the disappointing results of the original SBA approach. 1. Which of the following best states the central idea of the passage? [A] The use of MESBIC’s for aiding minority entrepreneurs seems to have greater potential for success than does the original SBA approach. [B] There is a crucial difference in point of view between the staff and directors of some MESBIC’s. [C] After initial problems with management and marketing, minority businesses have begun to expand at a steady rate. [D] Minority entrepreneurs wishing to form new businesses now have several equally successful federal programs on which to rely. 2. According to the passage, the MESBIC approach differ s from the SBA approach in that MESBIC’s [A] seek federal contracts to provide market for minority businesses. [B] Encourage minority businesses to provide markets for other minority businesses. [C] Attempt to maintain a specified rate of growth in the minority business sector. [D] Rely on the participation of large corporations to finance minority businesses. 3. Which of the following statements about the SBA program can be inferred from the passage? [A] The maximum term for loans made to recipient businesses was 15 years. [B] Business loans were considered to be more useful to recipient businesses than was management and technical assistance. [C] The anticipated failure rate for recipient businesses was significantly lower than the rate that actually resulted. [D] Recipient businesses were encouraged to relocate to areas more favorable for business development. 4. The author refers to the ‘financial and operating problems’ encountered by MESBIC’s primarily in order to [A] broaden the scope of the discussion to include the legal considerations of funding MESBIC’s through sponsoring companies. [B] call attention to the fact that MESBIC’s must receive adequate funding in order to function effectively. [C] show that sponsoring companies were willing to invest only $500,000 of government-sponsored venture capital in the original MESBIC’s. [D] Compare SBA and MESBIC limits on minimum funding. 5. It can be inferred from the passage that the attitude of some MESBIC staff member toward the investments preferred by some MESBIC directors can be best described as [A] disappointing. [B] Indifferent. [C] Shocked. [D] Defensive. 1. 5. A 失望。

This newly emerging trend would be impossible without the development of technology. It is the Internet that makes the sharing cheaper and easier and helps to strike a balance between supply and demand. Time magazine has listed the sharing economy as one of the 10 ideas that will change the world. As far as the comment is concerned, I cannot agree with Time more非常同意. As one of the greatest benefits of the digital age, the sharing economy arises from our oldest instinct as human beings. There is always an urge for us to connect with others, especially in an era when families are scattered and we do not really know the people who live nearby. It has been said that Joys shared with others are more enjoyed. However, in my eyes, the resources shared with others are more beneficial to our society. On the one hand, sharing economy leads to a more efficient use of resources. Some items are expensive to buy but widely owned by people who do not make the best use of them. Occasional sharing may provide extra income for the owners and can be less costly for the borrowers. If managed well, a win-win situation is achieved for both parties in the process. Besides, sharing economy contributes to environmental protection. Take accommodation for example. The more hotels are built, the more resources are required, which might in turn result in a decrease in arable land and public green space. On the other hand, the transaction 交易cost is reduced due to the use of Internet and various apps. With a smart phone in your hand, it is not difficult to find a potential host in the neighboring area. People are meeting increasingly on screens, discussing online and purchasing goods domestic and overseas, paying through Internet payment system. To summarize, although the sharing economy is not perfect at present because of concerns in insurance, legal liability, safety and the like, I believe, quite firmly, that it represents the future trend and has the power to change the world for the convenience and flexibility it brings to us. Just as the old Chinese saying goes, the defects cannot obscure掩盖 the virtues of a splendid jade瑕不掩瑜, and I assume it also applies to the sharing economy.(400 words) 2018英语专业八级写作2 Nowadays with the development of economy, existing cities are growing bigger and new cities are appearing. What do you think is ONE of the major problems that may result from this process of urbanization? Write an essay of about 300 words on the topic given below. One Major Problem in the Process of Urbanization Since the ancient time, economic power has always been regarded as the foundation of all other matters. Nowadays, it is easier for one to sense the urgency of economic development. As a result, existing cities are growing bigger and bigger and new cities are appearing. Obviously, the development of economy brings people a big profit, and meanwhile a lot of trouble. In my opinion, pollution is a major problem resulting from urbanization . Every day people go through cars, buses, trucks and other vehicles which give out a lot of poisonous gases. In the office building, people are nearly closed in a tin day and night because they are surrounded by central air-conditioners. Fresh air is not allowed in. What's more, there appear a lot of factories with large chimneys in big cities. Some chemical gases are released into the air constantly; they further worsens the air quality. In the past, bird chirpping, bee humming and other pleasant sound could be heard everywhere in towns. Nowadays trees are cut down, fields are occupied, and animals have no home land. On the contrary, machines howl, vehicles horn and crowded people quarrel. One hears nothing but noises which bother people's minds and interrupt the harmonious living space. With the development of economy, people's life tempo is growing faster and faster with the rapid going of the big city. People have no more time to think of others, and they only care about themselves. They can discard rubbish anywhere. They turn the radio up enough to be unbearable to others. They can fight against others violently in order to relax their busy nerves. Therefore, pollution of this unique kind occurs To sum up, the urbanization has a lot of negative effects including pollution caused by air, noise and fast life pace mentioned above. Besides, other elements such as living environment should be taken into consideration for the sake of a long-time development of big cities. 3 Some people hold the view that a student’s success in university study follows the same pattern as that of fanning, which is characterized by the sowing the seeds, nurturing growth and harvesting the rewards’ process. Write an essay of about 300 words on the topic given below to support this view with your own experience as a university student.? Sowing the Seeds, Nurturing Growth and Harvesting the Rewards? Some people hold a view that a student’s success in university study follows the same pattern as that of farming, which is characterized by sowing the seeds, nurturing growth and harvest the rewards’ process. I approve of this statement. No pains, no gains, like that the saying goes. A person could only succeed through his own arduous efforts. No easy access to success existed in this world. The main task of students is to study. Studying at regular time can be compared to sowing the seeds, nurturing growth; then successto harvesting the rewards. Take me as a live example. Before I entered the university, friends surrounding me all said that the university was the paradise. After I was enrolled in, I thought that it was right time for me to relax. So I never worked hard as before, only spent most leisure time on shopping and surfing the Internet. Time flied fast, and the final exams came. I supposed that I could manage them smoothly depending on my cleverness. At last, I suffered great failure without saying. From that time on, I comprehended the true meaning of sowing the seeds, nurturing growth and harvesting the rewards. I was determined to nurture growth through my diligent study. And during that period, I realized that I could adapte to university life well. I spent less time on shopping, but emerged in the ocean of books. I browsed books like a hungry tiger to broaden my horizon. And finally the fact proved that it brought a profound meaning and directed a more bright future to me. The above best illustrates the essense of sowing the seeds, nurturing growth and harvesting the rewards. Everyone has to be diligent to advance toward his or her own goal. Sowing the seeds and nurturing growth is an arduous process, but harvesting the rewards is always cheerful.

lisabaobao99 Pageants are usually conceived on a fairly large scale, often under the auspices of some local or civic authority or at any rate in connection with local groups of some kind. This sometimes means that there is an allocation of funds available for the purpose of mounting the production, though unfortunately this will usually be found to be on the meager side and much ingenuity will have to be used to stretch it so that all performers can be adequately clothed. Most pageants have a historical flavour as they usually come about through the celebration of the anniversary of some event of historic importance, or the life or death of some local worthy.Research among archives and books in the public library will probably prove very useful and produce some workable ideas which will give the production an especially local flavour. From the first economy will have to be practiced because there are usually a great number of people to dress.Leading characters can be considered individually in the same way as when designing for a play; but the main body of the performers will need to be planned in groups and the massed effect must be always borne in mind. Many pageants take place in daylight in the open air. This is an entirely different problem from designing costumes which are going to be looked at under artificial lighting; for one thing, scenes viewed in the daylight are subject to many more distractions. No longer is everything around cut out by the surrounding darkness, but instead it is very easy to be aware of disturbing movement in the audience of behind the performers.Very theatrically conceived clothes do not always look their best when seen in a daylight setting of trees, verdant lawns and old ivy-covered walls; the same goes for costumes being worn in front of the mellow colors of stately homes. The location needs to be studied and then a decision can be made as to what kinds of colors and textures will harmonize best with the surroundings and conditions and then to carry this out as far as possible on the funds available. If money is available to dress the performers without recourse to their own help in the provision of items, it is best to arrange for all the cutting and pinning together of the costumes to be done by one or two experienced people than to be given out to the groups and individuals for completion. When there is little or no money at all, the garments need to be reduced to the basic necessities.Cloaks and shawls become invaluable, sheets and large bath towels and bath sheets are admirable for draping.Unwanted curtains and bed spreads can be cut to make tunics, robes and skirts. These are particularly valuable if they are of heavy fabrics such as velvet or chenille. Colors should be massed together so that there are contrasting groups of dark and light, this will be found to help the visual result substantially.Crowds of people gathered together in a jumble of colors will be ground to look quite purposeless and will lack dramatic impact. The use of numbers of identical head-dresses, however simply made, are always effective when working with groups. If these are made of cardboard and painted boldly the cost can be almost negligible.Helmets, hats and plumes will all make quite a show even if the costumes are only blandest or sheets cleverly draped. The same can be said of the use of banners, shields and poles with stiff pennants and garlands—anything which will help to have a unifying effect.Any kind of eye-catching device will always go with a flourish and add excitement to the scenes. 1.The main idea of this passage is ___________ [A]Pageants. [B]Costumes on the stage. [C]Costumes for pageants. [D] How to arrange a pageant. 2.It can be inferred that the most important factor in costume design is ___________ [A]money. [B]color. [C]harmony [D]texture 3.Why will much ingenuity have to be required in costume design? [A]Because pageants take place in daylight in the open air. [B]Because different characters require different costumes. [C]Because the colors and textures must be in harmony with the setting. [D]Because an allocation of the funds available is usually rather small. 4.Why do most pageants have a historical flavour? [A]Because most pageants take place for celebration. [B]Many pageants take place for amusement. [C]A lot of pageants take place for religion. [D]Because pageants usually take place for competition. 答案:CBBD
Shenyangman。 The Young Generation Old people are always saying that the young are not whatthey were. The same comment is made from generation togeneration and it is always true. It has never been truer than it istoday. The young are better educated. They have a lot moremoney to spend and enjoy more freedom. They grow up morequickly and are not so dependent on their parents. They thinkmore for themselves and do not blindly accept the ideals of theirelders. Events which the older generation remembers vividly arenothing more than past history. This is as it should be. Every new generation is different from theone that preceded it. Today the difference is very marked indeed. The old always assume that they know best for the simple reason that they have been around abit longer. They don’t like to feel that their values are being questioned or threatened. And this isprecisely what the young are doing. They are question the assumptions of their elders anddisturbing their complacency. Office hours, for instance, are nothing more than enforced slavery.Wouldn’t people work best if they were given complete freedom and responsibility? And whatabout clothing? Who said that all the men in the world should wear drab grey suits and convicthaircuts? If we ruin our minds to more serious matters, who said that human differences can bestbe solved through conventional politics or by violent means, who said that human difference canbest be solved through conventional politics or by violent means? Why have the older generationso often used violence to solve their problems? Why are they so unhappy and guilt-ridden in theirpersonal lives, so obsessed with mean ambitions and the desire to amass more and more materialpossessions? Can anything be right with the rat-race? Haven’t the old lost touch with all that isimportant in life? These are not questions the older generation can shrug off lightly. Their record over the pastforty years or so hasn’t been exactly spotless. Traditionally, the young have turned to their eldersfor guidance. Today, the situation might be reversed. The old—if they are prepared to admitit—could learn a thing or two from their children. One of the biggest lessons they could learn is thatenjoyment is not ‘sinful’. Enjoyment is a principle one could apply to all aspects of life. It is surelynot wrong to enjoy your work and enjoy your leisure; to shed restricting inhibitions. It is surely notwrong to live in the present rather than in the past or future. This emphasis on the present is onlyto be expected because the young have grown up under the shadow of the bomb: the constantthreat of complete annihilation. This is their glorious heritage. Can we be surprised that they shouldso often question the sanity of the generation that bequeathed it? 1. Which of the following features in the young is NOT mentioned? [A] Better educated. [B] More money and freedom. [C] Independence. [D] Hard work. 2. What so the young reject most? [A] Values. [B] The assumption of the elders. [C] Conformity. [C] Conventional ideas. 3. Why do the young stress on the present? [A] They have grown up under the shadow of the bomb. [B] They dislike the past. [C] They think the present world is the best. [D] They are afraid of destruction. 4. What can the old learn from the young generation? [A] Enjoyment is not sinful. [B] People should have more leisure time. [C] Men might enjoy life. [D] One should enjoy one’s work. 1. I took leave to consider this matter settled. 压迫 7. guilt-ridden 负罪感 8. amass 积累,积聚 9. a rat-race 激烈的竞争 10. shrug off 对……

The Young Generation Old people are always saying that the young are not whatthey were. 1. Federal Government's Help Federal efforts to aid minority businesses began in the 1960’s when the Small Business Administration (SBA) began making federally guaranteed loans and government-sponsored management and technical assistance available to minority business enterprises. 1. 5. A 失望。
