2、ago短语在句中修饰谓语动词时，该动词一般须用过去时态。但在某些固定短语或人们意识到所涉及的事情是过去发生的时刻，ago也可用于一般现在时，着重表示“到现在已有多长时间了”。当不仅表示动作发生，而且强调动作的后果时，ago可和过去完成时连用。

在强调句型中，如强调ago短语，谓语动词be可用于一般现在时，也可用于一般过去时。long ago用于加强语气时，也可与现在完成时连用。
