因为耐破度指纸张或纸板在单位面积上垂直于试样表面的均匀地增大的最大压强，单位以kpa表示。通常在环形压圈的缪伦耐破度仪器上测定。在仪器上直接得出的数值，称绝对耐破度。把绝对耐破度除以纸张克重，就可以得到纸张或纸板的耐破指数。
