最常用的有两种说法：profile picture和profile photo。
这里的 profile 就是“面部的侧影，侧面轮廓；简介；形象”的意思。
例句：
His profile picture of WeChat is a cute puppy.
他的微信头像是一只可爱的小狗。
Profile photo / picture多指个人的形象照片，所以这个头像大多用的会是“本人照片”；但是想要使用任何你喜欢的头像，比如风景、小动物等等，英语里面还有另外一个单词“avatar”，这个不是阿凡达吗？但是这个单词在牛津词典里面的解释是：
A picture of a person or an animal that represents a particular computer user, on a computer screen, especially in a computer game or on social media（社交媒体或电脑游戏中代表一个用户的人物/动物图片）所以，“avatar”这个单词更加贴合“头像”的含义。
