On September 21,1949, China's leaders had alreadyannounced thebirth of new China in their opening speech. On October 1,1949,a grand celebration was held in Tian 'anmen Square. On October 2,1949,the government stipulated that October 1 of each year wasthe National Day, and this day was used as the day to declarethe founding of China.

Since then，October 1 has become a grand festival celebrated bythe people of al1 ethnicgroups in China.
