马球，史称“击鞠”、“击球”等,骑在马背上用长柄球槌拍击木球的运动。蒙古族民间马上游戏和运动项目,流行于内蒙古等地。相传唐初由波斯（今伊朗）传入，称“波罗球”,后传入蒙古，相沿至今。球状小如拳,以草原、旷野为场地。游戏者乘马分两队,手持球伏,共击一球，以打入对方球门为胜。有人认为中国古代的击鞠、打䎱或击䎱就属于马球运动。也有人认为，马球最早源于公元前525年的波斯 (今伊朗)，后传入中国。三国时曹植的《名都篇》中有诗曰：“连骑击鞠壤，巧捷推万端”，说明至少在汉末马球已经存在了。
