sarcasm，一种写法或讲演，表面上说的是这个，其实说的是相反的一面，经常带有侮辱的意思。同样sarcasm也来自古希腊辩论中的技巧，但这种手段就要毒辣的多啦！sarcasm是古希腊对簿公堂时的辩论，通常要通过各种论证甚至诡辩来击败对方，所以这种讽刺往往拳拳到肉，非常尖锐刻薄。事实上从构词法上看词根sarc-就是肉(flesh)的意思，形容这种讽刺可以把对方的肉都扣下来（尖锐毒辣程度可见一斑）。satire，用幽默或夸张的手法表现某个人的愚蠢行为。从构词法和词源的角度看，satire这种讽刺来源于一本包罗万象的讽刺诗集（诗文很多都是隐晦的针砭时弊，唐诗也是如此），因为这本诗集兼收并蓄所以出现-sat-词根也不怪了。因而satire后用来指讽刺文学，讽刺作品，以书面上的讽刺为主。irony，一种微妙的幽默，说的东西并不是真正想说的。而irony则是一种反讽，而且多时口头上的，iron-本身就有说的意思，这其实是古希腊哲人们的一种辩论技巧，即辩论时先承认自己错然后通过反例来让对方知道其实是自己错了，可见这种反讽是比较温和的（甚至是循循善诱的）。
