Spring Festival is the most important festival in China. Before the Spring Festival People clean their houses,put red couplets on their gates,and set off firecrackers to drive away the legendary monster “Nian”.
We have lots of traditions. First, we clean our house and sweep away bad luck, and then we paint doors and windows red. It means good luck. We usually decorate the doors and windows with paper cuts. We also buy clothes and everyone has a haircut.
Our parents and grandparents give us New Year presents. They are usually new clothes. On New Year’bais Day, we put on our new clothes and visit our family and friends. There is dragon and lion dancing.
The family have dinner and we jiaozi – a kind of dumpling, or a sweet rice pudding. We watch TV and at midnight there are usually fireworks. We don’t clean the house for a few days. We don’t want to sweep away good luck. And we have lots of food for good luck.
