座右铭maximmotto

motto英语读音：英 [ˈmɒtəʊ] ；美 [ˈmɑːtoʊ]  。意思是座右铭；格言；箴言。铭文样式之一。铭原指镂刻在器物上的文字，以记功颂德传扬于后世。

《文选·崔瑗〈座右铭〉》吕延济题注：“瑗兄璋为人所杀，瑗遂手刃其仇，亡命，蒙赦而出，作此铭以自戒，尝置座右，故曰座右铭也。”座右铭由来于此。座右铭的铭文比其他铭文更为简短，有的只是一两句话或格言，置于座位的旁边，用以自警。
