汉堡包是英语Hamburger的音译，是现代西式快餐中的主要食物，最早的汉堡包主要由两片小圆面包夹一块牛肉肉饼组成，现代汉堡中除夹传统的牛肉饼外，还在圆面包的第二层中涂以黄油、芥末、番茄酱、沙拉酱等，再夹入番茄片、洋葱、蔬菜、酸黄瓜等食物，就可以同时吃到主副食。这种食物食用方便、风味可口、营养全面，现在已经成为畅销世界的方便主食之一。汉堡热量高，含有大量脂肪，不适合减肥人群或高血压高血脂人群过量食用。

汉堡包（火腿汉堡）（hamburger）起源于德国西北城市汉堡，其吃法被当时的大量德国移民传到了美洲，现为流行的美式快餐，有时人们也用它来比喻“被打得遍体鳞伤的拳击手”。

汉堡的由来

其实原始的汉堡包就是剁碎的牛肉末和面做成的肉饼，故称为牛肉饼。德国汉堡地区的人将其加以改进，将剁碎的牛肉泥揉在面粉中，摊成饼煎烤来吃，遂以地名而称为Hamburg。

1850年，德国移民将汉堡肉饼烹制技艺带到美国。1932年有人将这种油炸牛肉饼夹入表面撒有芝麻的小圆面包中作为主食或点心食用，后来花样翻新，逐渐与三明治合流，将牛肉饼夹在一分为二的小面包当中，被称为汉堡包。
