英语中的省略现象

在一定条件下，英语句子中一个或多个成分被省略，这种语法现象称为“省略”。 句中各个成分都可省略，但经常被省略的是与上文重复的内容或对话双方都不会误解的部分。省略通常是为避免不必要的重复，使语言更精练。

1、名词所有格之后的省略

例： He is going to his uncle's (house).

He is going to his uncle's.

2、含there be结构中的省略

例： (Is there) Anything wrong?

Anything wrong?

3、独立主格结构中的分词如为being或having been时的省略

例：The examination (being) over, we all left the school.

The examination over, we all left the school.

4、 不定式的省略

例：Her job is to take care of the elders and (to) wash their clothes.

Her job is to take care of the elders and wash their clothes.

省略句是英语的一种习惯用法.按照语法的分析,句子应该具备的成分,有时出于修辞上的需要,在句中并不出现,这种句子叫做省略句（elliptical sentences,这种语法现象称为“省略”（ellipsis or leaving words out.其特点是：虽然省去句子语法构造所需要的组成部分,但仍能表达其完整的意义。

主语省略：1.祈使句 2，口语中 有些句子省略：Sounds like a good idea. 听起来是个好主意。（省略 it）宾语省略1.I paid (Tom) the money. 或者 I payed Tom （the money）2 She washed (the dress),ironed (the dress), folded ( the dress),and put the dress into a cupboard.定语省略Old men and (old)women are respected in China. 谓语省略（Are） you tired ? (口语中）I have made up my mind to buy this xomputer, whatever the cost (is). He will not go climbing with us, however good the weather (is). 主语和谓语（或者谓语的一部分）的省略Do you like this novel? Yes, (I like it) very much. 介词省略He waited for her at the station (for) an hour. 上述句子，否定句中 for 不省略。I haven't seen him for one year. He stayed (at ）home all day.
