Do not burn you house to get rid of a mouse

there is a story in "Hanshu" telling of a rich man, who being a lover of s and had a large collection. Among them was a rare vase made of jade. The vase of exquisite workmanship and of historical value and he loved it dearly. One night he noticed a mouse passing near the precious vase. The mouse jumped into the vase and was trying to eat some food which the man had carelessly left there. The sigh infuriated the man and in a fit of rage he threw a stone at the mouse. For sure, the mouse was killed, but the precious vase was broken also. The loss of the vase pained the man GREatly and he deeply regretted his own thoughtlessness, which bought him this unrecoverable loss. He now realized that any one, who cares for the present and overlooks consequences is apt to bring disasters upon himself. So he exclaimed to warn people by saying do not burn you house to get rid of a mouse.

投鼠忌器

《汉书》中有这么个故事：有个富人，很喜欢古董并收藏了很多。其中有一件稀有的玉盂，工艺精湛，具有很高的历史价值，深受这个富人的喜爱。一天晚上，一只老鼠跳进了这个玉盂，想去吃里边的一些剩菜，正巧被这个富人看到了。他非常恼火，盛怒之下，他拿了块石头砸向老鼠。当然，老鼠是被砸死了，可是那个珍贵的玉盂也被打破了。这件事使富人非常难过，他深深后悔自己的鲁莽带来的不可挽回的损失。他认识到只考虑眼前，而忽视后果，将给自己带来灾难。他向世人发出警告，不要为了除掉一只老鼠而烧毁自己的房子。

A Roc's flight of ten thousand li-A bright future

In the Chinese classic 《Chuangtze》, there is a legend like this:

Once upon a time, a gigantic fish named Kun lived in the northern sea. No one knew how large it actually was. This fish could change itself into the enormous bird called Peng (roc), measuring thousands of kilometers in length. When the bird was spreading its wings, it looked like huge clouds in the sky. It could, in one stretch, fly from the northern sea to the southern sea on the other side of the globe and soaring up to 90000 li (45000 kilometers) in the heaven.

the bird can surely fly over a long distance without stop. Now people use this idiom to with others have a long career or a bright future.

鹏程万里

在《庄子》一书中有这样一个故事：

很久很久以前，北海里住着一条巨大的鱼，名字叫鲲 (K%n)。没有人知道它到底有多大。这条鱼能够变成鹏(P0ng)，一种庞大的鸟，有几百万米长。鹏鸟展开翅膀就像天空里的一大片云。它能一口气从北海飞到地球另一边的南海。当它展翅高飞的时候，它可以冲上90000哩(45000公里)的高空。

毫无疑问，这种鸟一次能飞过很长的距离。人们用鹏程万里这个成语来祝愿别人事业顺利，前途光明。

Tiresias was a blind, darkseeing prophet(先知) of Thebes. He was struck with blindness in his youth, because he had spied unwittingly on the goddess Athena. He was wandering in the woods one day when quite unexpectedly he saw anaked maiden bathing in a placid lake. Little did he know that he had offended the virgin goddess. Taken unaware and scarlet with wrath(愤怒) , the goddess exclaimed that whoever had the boldness to steal a glance at her naked body was doomed to perpetual(永久的) blindness. But when she learned later that the offence was unintentional, it was too late for her to take back what she had said. Besides, she provided him with a marvellous sharpness of ear, so that he could understand the voices of all birds. And she filled his mind with mystic knowledge of things past and of things to come. In short she gave him quite an amount of her own wisdom. He was the first to recognise and welcome Dionysus, god of feast and wine, on the The ban land. When the infant Heracles caught Hera's two serpents(巨蛇) in its hands, it was Tiresias who cast the child's fortune and revealed the divine origin and destiny of the boy. When Oedipus abused Tiresias as having had a hand in the murder of Laius, Tiresias had the fearless courage to tell the truth that Oedipus was the murderer. Even in the lower world he continued to prophesy. There he helped Odysseus when the hero came to him for advice. Alive, he was highly respected by all;dead, he enjoyed the generous air and rosy light in the land of the Blest.

1 虽然我还从未走出国门，虽然护照一年前快递寄到家里从未开封过，但这并不影响我对国外美好事务的向往，梦想出国旅游或定居肯定是有的，万一哪天实现了呢？！ 说起国外自然而然记得从小学起的英语，现在的幼儿园小朋友刚入园就有英语课，想当初我们读书的时候，记得上中学才有英语吧，也许我记错了，但我的英语学得不怎么样。 只是记得教英语的是一个美女老师，听她上课心情很好，有次在数学课上分神写一个英语单词，被数学老师发现狠狠地瞪了一眼，也是那一次第一次会主动默写一个英语单词。 有一个英语专业的好友，她听的歌曲都是英文的，感觉听英文歌曲很不错。受她影响我也喜欢上了英文歌曲，现在手机里存的有一半是英文歌曲，肯定是听不懂才愿意听，当背景音乐只听旋律喜欢就好。中文歌曲易懂，懂了后发现不适合自己当下的心境就不想听了。 英文歌曲听得多了，也总想尝试着去唱，挑那种最简单的跟着哼唱。有一次和同事去KTV，试着唱了首《Big Big World》，居然效果还可以，同事都另眼相看。可惜没坚持，会唱的英文歌也实在太少，汗颜！ 2 英文书原版的还没有看过，很早之前买过《爱丽丝梦游仙境》，感觉是很简单的读物，但只看了开头，还是没有兴趣往下看，太难呀！ 但是对外国小说那我是比较入迷的，因为它里面的描写总是充满异域风情，故事发生的背景、不同风格的房子建筑、吃的食物、书中插图都会给我新鲜感，吸引我一直不停地看。 上学的时候，有个男同学有一本《三个火枪手》，他同意借给我看，结果每天的空余时间都在看那本书，看得如痴如醉津津有味，很短的时候就看了一半，有天正看在兴头上，却被他莫名其妙地要回去不再借我看，那种难受痛苦的感觉真的是估计一辈子都记得，哪怕书的内容讲什么都不记得了，也记得这事。 国外的电视剧看得很少，电视上放得也比较少吧。自从可可出生后，为了他就戒掉电视啦。电影也看得少，没有去电影院的习惯。平均两年才去一次，而且那电影票有可能是抽奖兑换或朋友送的。 3 认识的外国友人倒有一个，年纪偏长，当然没有什么浪漫的故事。记得刚来深圳的第一年，中午下班后在楼下打快餐吃，有个老外主动和我打招呼，我用英文问他有什么需要帮助的，然后他就讲起来，意思是让我跟他一起去吃一次饭，当然还有别的两位朋友。 有免费的午餐，我当然去啦，那时英语对话也可以，能交流。过了一会儿又来了两位中国人一男一女，年纪和我相仿。然后四个人一起走到附近比较近的餐厅，档次还可以。点的菜是清炒土豆丝、清蒸鲈鱼，还有几个菜我记不清楚了。 吃饭的过程中我才明白，那一男一女是卖保健品的，也是刚认识不久，老外可能是怕那两人坑他，所以带上我。那一男一女看我和老外讲英语，也不明白我和他的关系。估计因为这个，老外最后顺利摆脱了那搞推销的一男一女，当然那顿饭是老外请客。 饭后我拧着我打的快餐跟老外走在后面，那老外居然把我送到公司楼上，进到公司里面，其它同事看到老外也没什么反应，老外也只是看看就往外走，可能他想证实我是不是在这里上班。 等他看完，我又送他到公司外面，在电梯口，我跟他握手道别，他居然亲吻我的手，我想着是国外礼节，也没有生气。看着他进入电梯离开。想着来深圳真是大开眼界呀…… 4 后面一直有联系，他住的小区离公司很近，走路十多分钟的样子，但从没有去过。有时晚上他也会发信息过来，全英文的，让我过去玩，感觉吧一个女生去做什么呢？英语讲得不也是特别好，有许多沟通障碍，再者去也不安全呀，万一……。 曾跟一个女同事去见过她认识的一个男老外，老外请客，吃饭时英语交流也不是特别顺畅，听同事说吃过那次饭后就没再联系。呵呵，一个人去约会可能还会多联系。 我认识的老外，在深圳书城某培训中心教英语，有一次他让助理，一个中国女生给我打电话，让我过去听他的课，我去了。那次是公开课，正好也是中秋节。他只会说英语，公开课上也会和学生互动。课后有个女生给他带了月饼，我是什么都没有准备，也没有很热情地和他招呼，比如拥抱什么的，倒是他看到我偶尔和坐我旁边的一个男学生讲话。 于是那次相见，双方都以为对方有相好，后面就没有再见过面，虽然经常有短信联系，但语言不通，还是蛮有难度的。 今天是中秋节，突然想起他，拿起手机搜他的中文名文森特（Vincent），居然没有他的手机号，看来有太久没有联系，更换手机连手机号都没有了，不知他还在不在深圳，过得好不好，汉语有没有长进？ 也曾想过，认识他之后多多学英文，有一天能和他顺畅沟通，然后可以外出旅游，甚至去到他的国家旅游，我则可以推荐他或带着他走遍国内他想去的地方，真这么想过。 但事实是我的工作中根本就不需要英语，婚前的空闲时间大部份用来看电视玩去了，没有学习。所以现在的英语跟刚见他时一样的水平。 因为可可马上要上小学了，我又燃气重新学英语的火苗，不知能否坚持，看看三年后的自己吧，说多了是泪呀！
