雌性英语

1、词义不同

female泛指所有雌性生物，不单可以指女性，也可以指雌性动物。

如：a female spider 雌蜘蛛

woman则特指女性人类。

如：She knew she had made the right decision. She was her own woman again.

她知道她作了一个正确的决定。她又独立自主了。

2、使用场合不同

在单独指女性、妇女的时候，woman是正确的，而female用来指雌性动物；修饰女性属性的名词，用female。

3、词源不同

female一词来源于拉丁词femella，是拉丁词femina（女人）的指小形式。

最开始female和male并没有直接关系，直到14世纪晚期的英语书写中被改成female，为了与male相对应。

woman一词源自古英语的wifman，wifman的构成是wife（女人）+man（人）。
