With development of globalization, mastering a foreign language becomes a must, especially English, since it is the most widely used language in the world. In China, English teaching and learning has been paid much attention to. Our traditional teaching of English is mainly teacher-centered due to the influence of behaviorism of psychology which is based on the hypothesis that under the guidance of teacher, language learners’ learning is a habit formation process. However, such kind of teaching method lead to the phenomenon that language learners are reluctant to take part in the class activities and get lost in the real communication situation, what’s more, there is a lack of practice in listening, writing, speaking and reading. That’s why a great number of language learners in China are regarded as deaf-mute English. Therefore, to figure out some efficient ways to teach and learn English efficiently is a pressing task for scholars home and abroad. In recent years, there is a growing tendency, both at home and abroad, to be more student-centered than teacher-centered. For teachers, their main concern lies in how language learners’ learning styles and their teaching methods influence each other. So, it is necessary for teachers to have a general idea of their students learning styles, especially their field-independence/dependence tendency. As for language learners, what they mostly concerns about is what kind of learning methods can greatly improve their learning proficiency. Therefore, only if they know their learning styles, they can figure out how to control their own learning, and how to study under the guidance of teachers, and finally work out proper learning methods.Nowadays, it has been widely accepted that cognitive styles have a great influence on English as a foreign language (EFL) learners’ language proficiency. Therefore, the significance of the study is as follows:First, it is generally accepted that students with a sound understanding of their FD/FI cognitive style preference will adopt different learning strategies to deal with various tasks and improve their language proficiency. However, at present, most students can not realize their FD/FI cognitive style preference. This thesis will help students identify their FD/FI cognitive style preference.Second, the research in this thesis is able to help teachers and students to realize the importance of FD/FI during SLA learning process. It is expected to provide some implications to the teaching and learning of language, including listening, grammar and vocabulary, reading, writing. Moreover, it is hoped to bring academic attention to researches on FD/FI style in college English class.我觉得这就可以,不知道为什么前面发英文审核通过不了,这就是英语对话我也不知道为何,害,但愿你能看见
